![]() It has lately developed the case where the S meter reads full scale all of the time even though the radio still works. My E1XM (would have been the next in the Satellit series if Grundig had stayed in business) is another story. The older 700 feels like a more solid radio but it has to be given all that is put into a much smaller case. It is hard to compare it to its Satellit 700 predecessor which I bought on a trip to Germany when they were new because there is really no commonality between the two. It was designed to look impressive but when healthy performance is good also. Somewhere I have the service manual for it that I bought when Drake got out of the service business several years in case mine ever needs service. Also cycle the attenuator button a few times because it probably uses an internal relay. The slide switches for the antenna on the back can be troublesome if not used much, cycle the selector switch several times and then make sure you end up in the correct position for the antenna connected. Sensitivity and selectivity are fine and the AM sync also works well. My only real complaint with it is the tuning speed is pretty fast for CW/SSB. I have one and I wouldn't call it a great radio but it is far from terrible and I never noticed any severe intermod problems.
